Deciding which are the best beaches in Australia is an initiative of Tourism Australia (TA). Australia’s Best Beach 2025- Top 10

Number 1 on the 2025 list is Bay of Fires, in the area known as Iarapuna on the north-east coast of Tasmania. Named by an English navigator in 1773 after seeing fires lit by the local Aboriginal people along the coast. The area features clear seas, clean white beaches and orange lichen splashed granite rocks.

Caravanners from the mainland can take the Spirit of Tasmania across the Bass Strait and travel to the area from Launceston. A free camp site is located near the beach and nearby caravan parks include a Big 4, national parks entry fees apply.

Second on the top 10 is Woolgoolga on the NSW Coffs Coast. Just 365klm south of Brisbane and 550klm north of Sydney, this is a great area to visit in a caravan. Plenty of local attractions including The Big Banana, great local caravan parks and the coastal city of Coffs Harbour is just 24klm away.

Number three is Emily Bay Lagoon on Norfolk Island. Not practical to take your own caravan to visit,  but great for a getaway by plane. Next comes North Kirra in Queensland followed by the little known Little Lagoon in Western Australia. This is a stretch of watch near Shark Bay near the town of Denham on the north-west coast, with plenty of local attractions with Shark Bay, Eagle Bluff and Monkey Mia. Great selection of camp sites and caravan parks. Tip – stonefish are known to lurk in this lagoon so wear wading shoes!

Next best beach is Fishery Bay in South Australia which is a 20 minute drive south of Port Lincoln. Confident 4WD drivers apparently can drive onto the beach. From SA the list heads north again to 1770 in Queensland in the Gladstone area in FNQ.

Number 10 on the list is Scarborough Beach in Western Australia. A suburb in north Perth with a beach known for its surf break and a lively foreshore for dining and entertainment. Just a 20 minute drive from Perth’s CBD, caravanners can select from the many holiday parks in the area to set up for a great visit.

Buying a Caravan, Camper or Motorhome

If purchasing your first RV, there are a number of factors to consider when deciding exactly what type of vehicle. Factors such as the number of people to be accommodated, facilities and inclusions to cater for the length of the trip, whether staying in parks with powered sites or at free camping grounds, the terrain to be covered, towing skills, and level of luxury preferred while travelling.

There are many different types of RVs including traditional caravans, off-road and hybrid models, camper trailers, motorhomes and toy haulers, available in a wide range of lengths and floorplans. Australia has a strong caravan industry with many great brands including Jayco, Supreme and many others. Prices vary with size, inclusions and levels of luxury. If requiring financing, buyers can compare repayment estimates based on the different prices using our Finance Calculator.

New vehicles may be built or finished to individual specifications. So there can be a delay between ordering and taking delivery. Some dealers do have vehicles ready to go and used vehicles can be found in the dealer and private markets.
